FastTrack Gmail to Exchange Online Migration

Introduction

This guide is intended to walk you through enablement steps needed to be ready for a FastTrack Gmail migration through Migration Hub. After completing these steps, you will be ready to move onto Migration Hub setup and configuration.

Prerequisites

Complete the following prerequisites before continuing:

1. Create a subdomain to route mail to Google Workspace
2. Create a subdomain for mail routing to your Google Workspace domain
3. Provision Microsoft 365 mail users
4. Verify Google migration administrator role assignments
5. Create CSV of test mailbox to migrate (see step 10 in documentation)

Migration Endpoint Creation and Test Migration

In this task, we will walk through creating a migration endpoint as well as a test batch of at least one mailbox. Successfully migrating a mailbox through this guide validates that FastTrack migration tooling will be able to leverage the endpoint you create for migration.

1. Click in the address bar and type https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com  then hit Enter.
2. Sign in with your credentials:
   1. Click in the Email field and type admin@contoso.com , then hit Enter or click Next.
   2. Type password as password and hit Enter or click Sign in.
3. In the left panel of Exchange admin center, click on Migration.
4. Under Migration batches, click on Add migration batch.
5. In the Migration path section:
   1. Click in the textbox for Give migration batch a unique name and type Test Migration Batch , then hit Enter.
   2. Click the drop-down menu for Select the mailbox migration path and select Migration to Exchange Online.
   3. Click Next.
6. In the Migration type section:
   1. Click the drop-down menu for Migration type and select Google Workspace (Gmail) migration.
   2. Click Next.
7. In the Prerequisites section:
   1. Click Start to begin setup on the Google Workspace environment
   2. Sign in to your Google workspace account:
      1. Type admin@contoso.com as the email address of a Super Admin, then hit Enter or click Next.
      2. Type password as password and hit Enter or click Next.
   3. Click on the check box to select it.
   4. Click on the scroll bar to scroll down.
   5. Click Continue.
   6. Wait for the prerequisite steps to show a green check next to each item.
   7. A JSON file is downloaded during validation. Click Save to complete the download.
   8. Note the location of the .JSON file that was downloaded. Click on the folder icon under Downloads to open it.
   9. Note the location of the file projectid-ksuv. When done, click on the x sign to close the folder.
   10. Click Next.
8. In the Migration endpoint section:
   1. Select the radio button for Create a new migration endpoint.
   2. Click Next.
   3. Click in the Migration endpoint name field and type Gmail Migration Endpoint , then hit Enter.
   4. Click in the Maximum concurrent migrations field and type 100 , then hit Enter.
   5. Click in the Maximum concurrent incremental syncs field and type 100 , then hit Enter.
   • Note: Numbers for concurrent migrations and concurrent incremental syncs is a suggestion. You may want to lower or raise these numbers as needed. The maximum you can configure is 300 connections
   6. Click Next.
   7. For the gmail migration configuration, click in the Email address field and type admin@contoso.com as email of a Super Admin, then hit Enter.
   8. Click Import JSON.
   9. Select the JSON file projectid-ksuv that was downloaded earlier.
   10. Click Open.
   11. Click Next.
   12. When the endpoint has been validated, click Next.
9. In the Add users section:
   1. Click Import CSV file to add mailboxes to migrate.
   2. Click on gmail_schedule_template to select it.
   3. Click Open.
   4. Click Next.
10. In the Configuration section:
    1. Click on the drop-down menu for Target delivery domain and select m365.contoso.com.
    2. Click on the checkbox for Mail to select it.
    3. Click on the checkbox for Calendar to select it.
    4. Click on the checkbox for Contacts to select it.
    5. Click on the checkbox for Rules to select it.
    6. Click Next.
11. In the Schedule section:
    1. Under Start the migration batch by, select the radio button for Automatically start the batch.
    2. Under End the migration batch by, select the radio button for Automatically complete the migration batch.
    3. Click Save.
12. Click Done.

You will now be redirected to the Migration batches page, monitor the migration for completion. If the mailbox(es) scheduled complete successfully you are ready to move onto FastTrack Migration Hub
